Answer the following questions briefly. 1. What are the financial statements? Explain the three basic financial statements. Financial statements serve three important economic functions. First, they provide information to owner and creditors of a firm about current status and past financial performance. Second, they provide a convenient way for owner and creditors to set performance targets and to impose restrictions on the managers of the firm. At last, they provide convenient templates for financial planning. -- Three basic financial statements -- -The balance sheet It shows us a firm's assets, liabilities and owner's equity(difference between assets and liabilities) at a moment in time. These values are measured at historical acquisition costs according to GAAP(generally accepted accounting principles). It's divided in asset part and liability. -The income statement It summarizes the profitability of the firm over a period of time. -The Cash flow statement It show the cash that flowed into and out of a firm during a time period.
